BREWERS IN CLIMATE ACTION. The brewing industry seeks to make a difference to build a sustainable future, such as the Mexican brewer Grupo Modelo, which has claimed to achieve zero net emissions by 2040.
● Simply put, ‘net zero’ refers to companies eliminating greenhouse gas emissions
greenhouse gases so as not to cause an impact on the environment.
● To achieve this, the brewers have aligned their sustainability goals with the UN
for 2025 and 2030.
The planet’s climate change has forced large companies to align their sustainability goals with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations Organization (UN) to build a sustainable future, in recent years much has been heard about the search for achieve ‘net zero emissions’, but what are they and why are brewers taking the lead?
What brewers are doing toward ZERO NET EMISSIONS
Put simply, ‘net zero’ refers to the quest by large companies to eliminate
greenhouse gas emissions in its processes so as not to cause an impact
negative in the environment, in this way, serious impacts on the environment will be avoided.
climate change and thus help to conserve a planet where we can live.
Currently, the Earth is already warming by more than 1.1°C and emissions continue
rising, so it is essential that emissions be reduced by around 45% to
2030 and net zero is reached by 2050.
In this context, countries, industries, governments and institutions have committed to achieving net zero emissions, although the transition to a sustainable future is a challenge, in Mexico, the breweries have not been left behind.
In December of last year, Grupo Modelo started up the first fleet of trucks for
heavy load 100% electric in Mexico City, in addition, the brewery constantly works on responsible consumption programs, at the same time, it has the program of
largest volunteering to positively impact the communities where it operates.
However, the brewing giant has also launched actions for the responsible
water management, smart agriculture, use of waste, circular packaging
as well as new can formats to save aluminum, among other practices, as part of
its commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2040 throughout its value chain.
With this, the most important brewery in Mexico advances in order to build a more
sustainable in which industry, society and government must join forces for a path of total
transformation because achieving net zero requires a responsible joint effort.
